Short bio:

Stefan Heumann is Co-Director of Stiftung Neue Verantwortung (SNV) in Berlin. During the past years Stefan led SNV’s transformation into a think tank working at the intersection of technology and public policy. He has worked, published and spoken on a wide range of technology issues. His opinion pieces and commentary have appeared in German and international media outlets such as New York Times, Financial Times, Politico, The Economist, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Spiegel Online. During the past year his work has focused on the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on international relations and foreign affairs – and more recently on national strategies for AI. Stefan is a member of the advisory board of technology policy assessment of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and the future of work working group of Germany’s Platform for Artificial Intelligence. Before joining SNV in 2013, he coordinated the public affairs section of the US Consulate General in Hamburg. From 2009 to 2010 he taught and researched political science as Assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Stefan holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and studied political science at the Free University of Berlin, the University of the Provence in Aix-en-Provence, and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
